Team Rocket Captures a New Pokemon in Latest Anime Episode

Ash and his new friends better prepare for trouble, because Team Rocket has a brand new ally in the new Pokemon Sun and Moon: The Series anime. In the episode that aired over in Japan this week, the usually hapless James captured his first Alolan Pokemon: a Mareanie.

Mareanie is a rare Water/Poison Pokemon that typically only comes out to feast on Corsola (yes, Mareanie actually eat other Pokemon). When James dressed up like a Corsola while trying to go incognito, a Mareanie found him and tried to eat him with its poisonous head tentacles.

James survived the attack, and Mareanie later bonded with James when it noticed that James's somewhat resembled a Mareanie...especially when suffering from the effect's of Mareanie's poison barbs. You can check out the resemblence below:

James used Mareanie to defeat Ash's Rowlet with a nasty Sludge Bomb attack and was officially captured by James at the end of the episode. It appears that Mareanie will be over-affectionate to James similar to his Victreebel, Cacnea, and Carnivine.

Mareanie joins a surprisingly strong Team Rocket group in the Alola region. In addition to Meowth and Wobbuffet, Team Rocket also recently caught a downright evil Mimikyu with a grudge against Pikachu. While not officially part of their team, Jessie and James are also hounded by a Bewear that frequently scoops them out of danger and deposits them in their lair.
