In capturing the weekend box office, Dawn of The Planet of The Apes ended the reign of Transformers: Age of Extinction, which last weekend became the first summer film to hold the top spot at the U.S. box office forย two weekends in a row.
Despite being denied the three-peat, Transformers: Age of Extinction did manage to hold on enough to take second place with a U.S. box office take of $16.5 million. Tammy finished in third place with $12.9 million, and 22 Jump Street finished in fourth place with $6.7 million. How to Train Your Dragon 2 rounded out the top five with $6.7 million.
