Warning! Spoilers for Wonder Woman lie below!
In less than a month, the world will finally be brought face-to-face with Wonder Woman's live-action romp. The iconic character will get her first solo feature this June, and Diana Prince will be joined on-screen by a slew of characters. Chris Pine will bring Steve Trevor to life, and other DC Comics characters like Doctor Poison and Ares will also make their debut. However, it looks like there's another character in the film with a special DC Comics tie-in, and Saïd Taghmaoui just revealed the secret to his social media followers.
Taking to Instagram, the actor recently posted a picture of him dressed in character as Sameer, a secret agent who allies himself with Steve Trevor. To date, there is no well-known character in the DC Universe by that name, but fans began to wonder if there was more to Sameer than they thought. Now, Taghmaoui has confirmed that is the case. The actor posted a picture of his character side-by-side with Blackhawk.
"Coming soon..!" the actor captioned the image, leaving fans to speculate over how Sameer would tie-in with Blackhawk.
In the comics, Blackhawk was the eponymous hero of a comic series under Quality Comics. After being acquired by DC Comics, Blackhawk became better-known to fans for its aerial action. The comics told the story of the Blackhawk Squadron, a small team of pilots who operated during WWII under their mysterious leader.
When Taghmaoui was first cast in Wonder Woman, rumors circulated that the actor may be playing Blackhawk, but those have since died down. However, it does look like Sameer will be associated with the franchise in some way. It could be that Sameer will take over Blackhawk as a hero, but fans think it is more likely that Taghmaoui's character is part of the Blackhawk Squadron. There are dozens of soldiers housed within the Blackhawk Squadron in the comics, so Sameer could represent any number of them.
Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.
Joining Gadot in the international cast are Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, David Thewlis, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner and Saïd Taghmaoui. Patty Jenkins directs the film from a screenplay by Allan Heinberg and Geoff Johns, story by Zack Snyder and Allan Heinberg, based on characters from DC Entertainment. Wonder Woman was created by William Moulton Marston.
The DCEU continues when Wonder Woman opens in theaters on June 2, 2017, followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020. The Flash, The Batman, Dark Universe and Man of Steel 2 are currently without a release dates.
