Greg Berlanti's Black Lightning Might Move To The CW, Join the Arrowverse
Just like Supergirl and Riverdale, another comic book show executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Black Lightning is reportedly eyeing a move from FOX to The CW.
If the move were to take place, Black Lightning would presumably take place within the shared DC Universe/multiverse of Supergirl, The Flash, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and Arrow.
Deadline reports that FOX passed on the pilot but that Warner Bros. Television still has faith in the project and started shopping it around immediately after the rejection.
The show centers on Jefferson Pierce and his daughters. Pierce himself is a school teacher with electric powers who acts as a superhero in the off-hours. It would be executive produced by Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Being Mary Jane creator Mara Brock Akil and her husband Salim Akil.
The turnaround would be tight, but Deadline reports that a move to The CW would likely guarantee a pilot order.
The report suggests that FOX simply felt they were overextended on genre and comic book TV, with Gotham and Lucifer being joined by a pair of X-Men shows.
Black Lightning centers on Jefferson Pierce. He made his choice: He hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with a daughter hellbent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he'll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend Black Lightning.
It was previously reported that, due to airing on FOX and the logistical problems of creating inter-network crossovers, Black Lightning would likely not be a part of the so-called Arrowverse. The pilot, if it can find a home, is expected to start filming soon.
