Henry Cavill Read DC Rebirth to Prepare for 'Justice League'

Henry Cavill's performance as Superman in Justice League marked the third film in which the actor had to breathe life into the Last Son of Krypton. Given all that the character had been through over the course of these films, Cavill continues to research the character to most accurately play him, revealing in Justice League: The Official Collector’s Edition book that the DC Rebirth event is where he drew most of his inspiration.

"I do indeed — especially with Rebirth, which has just come out," Cavill explained in the book of looking to comics for inspiration. "I’ve been really diving into that. It’s fun to see where the DC Comics Universe is going, and to see how closely our movie universe is matching it."

Following the disappointing critical and financial reception of the film, rumors have reignited about Ben Affleck potentially leaving the DC Extended Universe, leaving the Batman role vacant. Cavill, on the other hand, is just as excited as ever to don Superman's suit.

“Putting the suit on was fantastic. I love wearing that suit," Cavill confessed. "No matter how warm or uncomfortable it gets. It’s the Superman suit. There’s no feeling like it. It’s a truly unique, special thing and I hope I get to do it for many more years. I’m really happy.”

Another complication with the underwhelming performance of Justice League seems to be some rearrangement of the upcoming slate of DCEU films, which Warner Bros. recently released.

Among those films were Aquaman, a Wonder Woman sequel, Suicide Squad 2, Justice League Dark, Flashpoint, Shazam, The Batman, Green Lantern Corps and the Batgirl movie.

Noticeably absent from this list is a Justice League sequel or a Man of Steel sequel, both of which had previously been discussed by Warner Bros. More specifically, the Justice League production had long been talked about as being a two-part adventure, much like the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4, making that concept seem abandoned.

Given that Man of Steel helped kick off the DCEU and was one of the more highly-praised films in the shared universe of films, many thought Warners Bros. would return to its roots to try to win fans back.

With no Justice League or Man of Steel sequel on the horizon, there's no hint of when Cavill will wear the Superman suit again.

Justice League is currently in theaters.
