Major spoilers for tonight's episode of The Flash ahead.

He holds my body in his arms. He didn't mean to do no harm and he holds me tight.

Tonight's episode of The Flash started with a montage showing various members of Team Flash preparing for midnight, the time that Savitar killed Iris in the future that Barry accidentally stumbled upon.

The scene went to tug on the heart strings as a powerful song — Murder Song (5, 4, 3, 2, 1) by Aurora — played on in the background. It all starts with a countdown from 5.

5, 4, 3, 2, 1. He holds the gun against my head; I close my eyes and bang I am dead. I know he knows that he's killing me for mercy.

Before too long, the ballad introduced in the opening montage ended. Unfortunately, it wasn't the last time we heard the song.

Despite every effort Team Flash took this season — every waking second they spent trying to stop Savitar — didn't matter. The bad guy got his wish. Savitar murdered Iris West in front of her future husband. He murdered Iris in front of her father. He murdered Iris as her brother lie wounded in a hospital bed.

Oh, he did it all to spare me from the awful things in life that come and he cries and cries.

The season finale of The Flash is set to air at 8:00 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday, May 23.

The Flash stars Grant Gustin (Barry Allen), Candice Patton (Iris West), Danielle Panabaker (Caitlin Snow), Carlos Valdes (Cisco Ramon), Tom Cavanagh (Dr. Harry Wells), Jesse L. Martin (Joe West), Kenyan Lonsdale (Wally West), Rick Cosnett (Eddie Thawne), Violett Beane (Jesse Wells), Tom Felton (Julian Albert), and Patrick Sabongui (Captain David Singh)
