5 Reasons the Wonder Woman Trailer Has Us Excited
The new Wonder Woman trailer has been released online, and it is a definite showcase of director [...]
Deeper Story

Already the story behind Wonder Woman looks to be rich in themes and character arcs. From just the two trailers we know how Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) meets Diana; why Diana joins him in the fight of WWI; what kind of evil they must face; and how that evil left Diana the cynical and indifferent person we met in Batman v Superman.
Wonder Woman's themes about war, brutality, compassion, heroism, feminism, and that classic "good vs. evil" rivalry all look neatly balanced and woven together into the subtext of classic hero's journey origin tale. That's more than any other DCEU film to date can claim.
Allan Heinberg (Scandal) may be a writer on the film, but it will be the contribution of DC comics icon, DC Films head and all-around geek icon Geoff Johns that will have fans excited that Wonder Woman will deliver a worthy superhero story.
Color!

After so many bleak, washed out, or darkened tones for these DCEU films (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad) it is so. Freaking. Good. To finally have a film DC movie that embraces the fact that there is color in the world.
Those shots of Themyscira made our eyes pop. Director Patty Jenkins and cinematographer Matthew Jensen (Game of Thrones) have done a pretty spectacular job on the visuals.
Heroism

The DCEU movies thus far haven't demonstrated a whole lot of actual heroism. Man of Steel was all about Superman learning to be Superman, and not cause massive disasters in populated areas. Batman v Superman was about Batman and Superman hating on each other so much Lex Luthor nearly wiped out Metropolis, and Suicide Squad was about psychos and killers. The most heroic thing that's happened in the DCEU to this point is Superman dying. Not a good start.
Wonder Woman has clearly demonstrated that Diana's bravery and heroism is going to be a central part of the movie - and this latest trailer definitely has a few signature "heart swell heroic" moments to inspire the kids. Finally, and actual hero in the DCEU!
Awesome Fight Sequences

Aside from Batman's brutal assault on Lex Luthor's henchman in Batman v Superman, the DCEU films haven't exactly offered jaw-dropping superhero action moments that stick in memory long after the film is done. Sure, Man of Steel had Kryptonians slam-dancing with awesome power; and Suicide Squad had some nice moments (Harley Quinn elevator scene FTW), but things like those Avengers movies spinning team shots are hard to top.
This latest Wonder Woman trailer already highlights some fantastic superhero visuals and fight choreography that is sure to capture the eye, and stick in memory. We can't wait to see the full scope of the action that Patty Jenkins and Co. have created.
Mythological DCEU History

Wonder Woman is in a good position as a DCEU film. Like its closest Marvel comparison, Captain America: The First Avenger, Wonder Woman has the benefit of being a truly standalone film, with its early-20th century setting separating it from the current events of the DCEU.
What's particularly fun about Wonder Woman is the way it is seemingly mixes real life mythology and WWI history with the fantastical mythos and history of the DCEU.
From Danny Huston possibly playing real-life German general Erich Ludendorff, to Wonder Woman's modern origin possibly including Greek mythology figures like Zeus and Ares - to those connections between The Amazons and the looming threat of Apokolips in Justice League... Wonder Woman seems like it will be a great standalone story and a proper launchpad for the larger story of the DC superheroes.
