Cuphead has become one of the huge breakout hits of 2017. Ever since its release in late September for Xbox One and Steam, it's been garnering huge acclaim from gaming audiences, and has also been faring well in sales, clearing over a million copies sold with ease within its first two weeks of release.

So when it comes to whether or not Cuphead and Mugman will return for another go-around, there's no question – it will.

Speaking with IGN, Chad and Jared Moldenhauer, who work alongside Studio MDHR as the creators of the run-and-gun action game, noted that Cuphead's return isn't just a given– it's a promise.

"Guaranteed you'll see Cuphead at one point," noted Jared during a recent episode of IGN Unfiltered. That means the team is avoiding the idea of a one-and-done theme with the game, especially with the reception it's been getting.

But, considering the time and effort that went into the original game, you're probably going to be waiting a while. "But as far as what are our plans, what are we distinctly doing next, there's been zero time to really breathe or think," Jared added. Chad did note that the team "would have had two 30-minute chats about the future," but didn't disclose too much beyond that.

There have been some fans wondering whether the game would see release outside of the current platforms it's on – like PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. That's probably not likely, since Microsoft is one of the key parties behind the game's production. So if we did see a sequel, don't be surprised if it was exclusive for the PC and Xbox One front again, or whatever platform Microsoft endorses upon its release.

It'll probably take a while for a sequel to arrive, so it's a good opportunity for you to discover what the original game has to offer. We rated it perfectly in our review, explaining that, while it's a challenging effort, it's one filled with rewards aplenty – plus it looks and sounds fabulous.

You can check out Cuphead now for Xbox One, Windows 10 and Steam for PC. We definitely wouldn't hesitate.
