Here’s What Jumanji: Welcome To the Jungle Would Look Like As a Retro Beat-Em-Up

Jumanji: Welcome To the Jungle has clearly taken over the world. Since the film's release in December, it's managed to make over $315 million at the box office, and is still going strong in the number one spot this week. So…why hasn't it actually gotten its own video game?

After all, the film is based around the board game becoming a video game, right? And it features some great characters that would make for good playable heroes in a side-scrolling beat-em-up. Well, leave it to an artist to give us a taste of what might have been if someone like, say, Capcom took the reigns.

A Twitter user by the name of Castpixel (real name: Christina Antoinette Neofotistou) has managed to put together some screenshots of what a Jumanji side-scrolling beat-em-up would look like. And it definitely delivers some of the nostalgic feels from the type of games Capcom used to make in its heyday, including titles like Alien Vs. Predator, The Punisher, the Final Fight games, the Dungeons & Dragons games and several others.

As you can see from the screenshots, the "playable characters" would be the four main heroes in the film, portrayed by Jack Black, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Karen Gillan and Kevin Hart, respectively. They also have their power and speed listed, along with their weakness summed up in just a few short letters. (As expected, Hart's character's is definitely "cake.") And the screens indicate that "Smolder" and Ruby Roundhouse have no trouble holding their own against bad guys, while the professor and "weapons valet" lend them a hand.

The game has a resemblance to Capcom's old Cadillacs & Dinosaurs arcade game, right down to the appearance of large creatures (a rhino instead of a T-Rex, but still intimidating), along with enemy soldiers trying to put down our heroes. Alas, there are only a handful of these that were made, but Christina did a splendid job capturing the spirit of the film in video game form. Now if we can just convince Capcom to give the game a chance on the market…
