There is a new free Steam game, and it’s one of the best free Steam games given out so far this year. The problem is that it’s not as straightforward as some previous free Steam game giveaways. And that is because the giveaway comes courtesy of Lenovo, which requires you not only to make a free account with it, but to watch at least two hours of one of its Twitch streams between September 19 and September 20 to earn the code. Obviously, you can turn on the stream, leave, and return once two hours have passed. This isn’t challenging, but it is more work than what is typically required with similar giveaways.

As a reward for this extra work, Steam users will be getting a notable and quality game in return. Often, free Steam games are smaller or older releases, and typically of the obscure variety. They are usually not games you would try or even know about if they weren’t available for free. Lenovo has broken this trend by giving away free copies of Metal: Hellsinger, a first-person shooter with rhythm elements and old-school flavor.
About the Game
Metal: Hellsinger was released back in 2022 by developer The Outsiders and publisher Funcom. Upon release, the first-person shooter garnered a solid 79 on Metacritic, but according to user reviews, this is underselling the PC game a bit. On Steam, Metal: Hellsinger boasts an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating, the highest rating a game can earn on Steam. This is thanks to a 96% approval rating across 7,530 user reviews. These user reviews line up with our own review for the game, which awarded it a 9 out of 10.
As you can tell from the trailer above, Metal: Hellsinger is inspired by the likes of DOOM and the lesser-known BPM: Bullets Per Minute. What makes the first-person shooter unique from many other games in its genre, though not wholly unique, is that shooting on beat is part of the gameplay loop. The more on beat you are in your violence, the more intense the music gets and the more hell you will unleash on your enemy.
As for the story background, you play as a part-human, part-demon entity called The Unknown, hellbent on vengeance. Your mission is to settle a score you have with the Red Judge, but to get to her, you will need to fight through literal hell.
All of that said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think, or join the conversation over on the ComicBook Forum. Meanwhile, if this new Steam free game doesn’t tickle your fancy, the Epic Games Store has two new ones.
