One of the Best PlayStation Games of All Time Now Free With PS Plus for Both PS4 and PS5 Users

One of the best PlayStation games of all time is now free, for a limited time, with some tiers of PlayStation Plus for not just PS5 and PS5 Pro users, but PS4 users as well. Those at the standard tier of the Sony subscription service, the Essential tier, are unfortunately out of luck here, as this offer has only been extended to the Extra and Premium tiers. Consequently, games are only typically added to these tiers for limited windows of six months, one year, two years, etc; that said, it is a PlayStation-published game, so it could be around for a while. It can’t be assumed it is a permanent addition, though, because PlayStation games have been removed from PS Plus in the past.

The new PlayStation Plus game in question, added to Extra and Premium today, September 26, is The Last of Us Part 2 if you are on PS4 and The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered if you are on PS5. This is the first time the game has ever been available, in full, on PS Plus. It has been available as a free, two-hour trial via Premium in the past.

One of the Greatest Games Ever Released by PlayStation

Saying The Last of Us Part 2 is one of the best games of all time is a bit of a stretch. It’s not even better or more popular than its predecessor. However, when filtering by PlayStation-published games, it is certainly in the conversation. This is evident by it selling over 10 million copies, boasting a 93 on Metacritic, and our own 5/5 review of the PS4 release.

The 2020 action-adventure game from California-based studio Naughty Dog — also known for Uncharted — serves as a sequel to 2013’s The Last of Us, which is in the argument for the greatest game of all time. While it can technically be played as a standalone experience, you really need to have played the first game to get the most out of the sequel’s story, let alone fully understand its brutal and dark themes.

Still Relevant and The Last of Us Part 3

When The Last of Us Part 2 was released in 2020, it was one of the most impressive games ever made from a technical perspective. Five years later, this remains the case. Despite being made in a previous console generation, it looks more like a PS5 game than most PS5 games. Meanwhile, it looks like after Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet comes out, Naughty Dog could turn their attention to The Last of Us Part 3. If this happens, whether on PS5, PS6, or even PS7, it will be a marquee PlayStation release of that generation, and one you probably won’t want to miss. To this end, you will have to play the first two games first.
