Pokemon Go Announces Global Challenges for Pokemon Go Fest Weekend

On July 22, Pokemon Go will be hosting its first major live event in Chicago called "Pokemon Go Fest." Tickets for the event sold out in less than a half hour, leaving thousands of Pokemon Go fans out in the cold. To help players around the world join in the fun, Pokemon Go just announced three global "Challenge Windows" that will give players some major in-game perks...regardless of whether or not they're attending the events.

The "Challenge Windows" will each take place during Pokemon Go Fest. During each Challenge Window, players at Pokemon Go Fest will try to capture specific types of Pokemon to unlock some sort of perk for players around the world. For example, the distance needed to hatch eggs will be reduced for all Pokemon Go players if players at Pokemon Go Fest catch enough Electric-Type Pokemon.

Since each Challenge Window has a limited amount of time, players at Pokemon Go Fest will need to coordinate to decide which perks they should prioritize.

Players outside Pokemon Go Fest can also participate in the Challenge Windows by catching as many Pokemon as they can during that time frame. Each Pokemon caught outside the event will extend the Challenge Window by a little bit of time, so that players at Pokemon Go Fest can catch more Pokemon and unlock more perks.

In addition, if players outside of Pokemon Go Fest catch enough Pokemon, they'll unlock a mystery challenge at Pokemon Go Fest that, once completed at the event, will unlock an "extra special bonus" for all players around the globe.

The popular speculation is that the mystery challenge is some sort of Legendary Pokemon raid, which in turn will unlock Legendary Pokemon raids around the world.
