Pokemon Go Players Discover Hyper-Rare Egg Species
Pokemon Go researchers have discovered a new rarity tier for Pokemon eggs. Earlier this year, the [...]
Common
Players have about a 3.1% chance of pulling a common egg. That percentage seems low, but it's quite high compared to some of the other tiers in this list. The common tier includes the following Pokemon:
- Pichu
- Nidoran (M)
- Nidoran (F)
- Poliwag
- Geodude
- Ponyta
- Krabby
- Phanpy
Pichu was a recent addition to the tier, having only been added during July's Anniversary event. Other than Pichu (which has a chance of being Shiny), the other notable Pokemon in this tier is Phanpy, which is a pretty rare Pokemon in a lot of areas.
prevnextUncommon
Players have a 1.6% chance of pulling an uncommon egg. However, because there's over 36 species in the uncommon tier, players have a better chance of pulling an uncommon Egg than any other type of eggs. Notable Pokemon in the uncommon tier include Larvitar, Dratini, and Mareep, all of which are pretty rare in the wild.
Here's the species included in the uncommon tier:
- Oddish
- Diglett
- Growlithe
- Abra
- Machop
- Slowpoke
- Shellder
- Gastly
- Drowsee
- Voltorb
- Exeggcute
- Cubone
- Rhyhorn

- Swinub
- Mantine
- Stantler
- Tyrogue
- Smoochum

- Larvitar
Rare
Players have only a 0.8% chance of pulling a Rare Egg. While there aren't too many desirable Pokemon in the Rare Tier, it does include the Gen 2 starter Pokemon Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. These Pokemon were added to the egg pools back in July as part of the Anniversary event. Other notable Pokemon in this tier include Chansey, Scyther, Snubbull, and Houndour, all of which are at least somewhat uncommon in the wild.
The full list of Pokemon in the Rare egg tier are below:
- Seel
- Onix
- Chansey
- Tangela
- Pinsir
- Scyther
- Chikorita
- Cyndaquil
- Totodile
- Sudowoodo
- Snubbull
- Teddiursa
- Remoraid
- Skarmory
- Houndour
Super-Rare
Players only have about a 0.2% chance of pulling a Super-Rare egg from a PokeStop or gym. Some of the most notable Pokemon in this tier include Snorlax and Lapras, which at one point were some of the most desirable and hard to obtain Pokemon in the game. Kabuto and Omanyte are also in this tier, although it seems a bit strange to hatch Fossil Pokemon from eggs.
The full list of Super-Rare Pokemon are:
- Grimer
- Lickitung
- Koffing
- Lapras
- Omanyte
- Kabuto
- Aerodactyl
- Snorlax
- Misdreaveus
- Pineco
- Gilgar
- Qwilfish
- Sneasel
- Miltank
Hyper-Rare
The most recently discovered tier is the Hyper-Rare tier, which players have only a 0.1% chance of pulling from PokeStops or gyms. Weirdly enough, none of the Pokemon in the Hyper-Rare tier are particularly rare or useful in Pokemon Go. In fact, most players would be pretty upset if they hatched one of these Pokemon from an egg.
So why does the Hyper-Rare tier exist? Well, if we had to take a guess, it's a way to keep these Pokemon in the egg pool for players who can't find them in the wild, but still rare enough so that most players won't get annoyed when they hatch them.
The full list of Pokemon that hatch from hyper-rare Pokemon includes:
- Wobbuffet
- Girafarig
- Dunsparce
- Shuckle
