Earlier this afternoon, Pokemon Go players discovered that Shiny versions of Shuppet and Banette were now spawning in the wild. Shiny Pokemon are alternate colored versions of Pokemon that are considered ultra-rare and valuable. Both Shuppet and Banette have pale blue skin instead of their usual grey skins.
Pokemon Go previously released Shiny versions of Sableye, Duskull, and Dusclops as part of the game’s ongoing Halloween event.
Some players are a bit surprised that Pokemon Go added five new Shiny Pokemon in such a short period of time. Pokemon Go previously released Shiny versions of Magikarp and Gyarados in the spring, and then added Shiny versions of Pichu, Pikachu, and Raichu in the fall. Players definitely weren’t expecting Pokemon Go to double the number of Pokemon species with Shiny variations during one event.
Other Halloween Surprises

All five Ghost-Type Pokemon are part of Pokemon Go‘s ongoing Halloween event, and are the first of an upcoming release of new “Gen 3” Pokemon. Over 130 Pokemon will be added to Pokemon Go later this year, although no firm timeline has been given for a full release. In addition to the new Ghost-Type Pokemon appearing in mass quantities for the next few days, certain Ghost-Type and Dark-Type Pokemon are also spawning more often.
Pokemon Go is also doubling the amount of candies that players receive from catching, hatching, and transferring Pokemon during the Halloween season. Finally, players can also take advantage of some heavy discounts during the Halloween event on certain items.
The Halloween event ends on November 2nd, so be sure to get out there and go hunting for some Shiny Pokemon!
