The Xbox One X will soon launch and Microsoft fans will clear retailers of the powerful new console, but according to one Xbox executive, it won't be the company's best-selling console, nor will it be a suitable fit for everyone.

That's not to say that the Xbox One X won't sell well, however. The preorders for the upgraded product have been snatched up quickly since they were opened, especially for the Project Scorpio edition, so the desire for the console is certainly there. But Microsoft's Phil Spencer talked to GameSpot at the Brazil Game Show and speculated on that the Xbox One X won't be beating the Xbox One S when it's released.

"Xbox One S will be the market leader for us. It's the more affordable console. It plays all the same games," Spencer told GameSpot. "It will be the console that sells."

The Xbox One S certainly offers plenty for Xbox fans on its own, and for many gamers, it's more than enough to get their Xbox fix. Purchasing another Xbox One upgrade in the form of the Xbox One X may not seem nearly as appealing of an option, but comparing the experience of the console to that of the Xbox One Elite controller, Spencer added that the Xbox One X likely just isn't for everyone.

"Whether you're on a 1080p TV or a 4K TV, you're going to have a great experience," he continued. "But it's not for everybody. It's like when we built the Xbox One Elite controller, we didn't try to say to everybody, 'If you need an extra controller, go buy the Elite controller.' We sold a ton of those controllers. We know in the gaming segment, there are a lot of people who play games casually and there's also people where gaming is their number one hobby."

Spencer hypothetically asked if they'd perhaps taken innovation too far into an area that doesn't have enough player interest, but he said that "it's hard to do that with gamers" and is confident in the product.

The Xbox One X is scheduled to release on Nov. 7.
