Xbox Exclusive Game Fans Have Been Waiting 12 Years for Gets First Update in a Very Long Time

An Xbox exclusive game first announced back in 2014, which hasn’t had a meaningful update since 2017, has resurfaced with a tease that suggests it is finally going to resurface next month. Whether it will resurface as an Xbox exclusive remains to be seen. At one point, it was supposed to be an Xbox One console launch exclusive, but this was relayed back in 2017. This information is almost a decade old, and there’s a decent chance this partnership with Xbox no longer exists.

Whatever the case, whether it’s still an Xbox launch exclusive or not, it appears Tim Soret’s The Last Night is reemerging next month. For those who do not know, The Last Night was once one of the most anticipated indie games of the 2010s. It’s a cinematic platformer from Soret’s studio, Odd Tales, and at the time it was being published by Raw Fury. The latter no longer seems involved, which also points to the aforementioned Xbox deal no longer being in place. The last time we saw the game, it stole the show at E3 2017. Now, E3 has been dead for about six years. That’s how long it has been. Thankfully, the game still looks very promising.

The Last Night Returning Soon?

Over on social media platform X, Soret posted the following message: “Next month, if everything goes according to plan, I should be out of a decade of sacrifice. Itโ€™s about time. Iโ€™m just getting started. I have so much to offer to the world.”

It isn’t immediately obvious this post is about The Last Night, but in the same thread the game is clearly referenced. Also in the same thread, Soret refers to “self-publishing,” which is what points to Raw Fury being out of the picture, and likely its deal with Xbox. As a result of being self-published, Soret does not note that the game “won’t be as visionary as when it was originally conceived.” However, Soret remains confident that the end product is going to be something special.

It is unclear what could be happening next month that will serve as a venue for the re-reveal. It’s possible it will just be a standalone re-reveal without any partners, but a game of this quality and anticipation should have no problem getting into a PlayStation State of Play, Nintendo Direct, or what have you. For now, it’s best to assume it will just be a standalone re-reveal.

The lack of details on whether or not it’s still an Xbox exclusive may point to some deal being in place somewhere that prohibits openly and freely talking about such information. This is just speculation, though. It’s quite possible Soret is just keeping his cards close to his chest until it’s time to reappear.
