Spider-Man: Homecoming star Tom Holland, who plays Marvel Studios' take on the web-slinging superhero, says in a new clip from the Spider-Man: Homecoming Blu-ray special features (courtesy of Access Hollywood) that webbing up the role is a dream come true.

"I was at the Empire awards in London five years ago, and one of the interviewers asked me if I could be a superhero, who would I be?" Holland recalls. "And I say, 'I'd like to be the Spider-Man after Andrew Garfield.' I would never have guessed that that would come true. Spider-Man was my favorite since I was a little boy and I loved recreating him."

The much older Andrew Garfield filled the spider boots in 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man and its 2014 sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, before Sony dumped the continuity, deciding instead to strike a pact with Disney-owned Marvel Studios, allowing the webhead to take part in the shared Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel would lean towards a younger take on the teen hero, casting then 19-year-old British actor Tom Holland to swing into Captain America: Civil War.

Holland, now 21, is decidedly younger looking than his predecessors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who were 26 and 29 respectively when they first started playing high school student Peter Parker.

"Tobey was one thing, Andrew was one thing, and Tom is a whole other thing," says Amy Pascal, who produces Spider-Man: Homecoming through Pascal Pictures. "He's eager in a different way. He's a child, which is really important, and he's exactly what we needed."

Holland will reprise the role in next summer's Avengers: Infinity War before starring in his second solo feature, the currently untitled Spider-Man sequel, in July 2019. Spider-Man: Homecoming swings onto 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD Tuesday, October 17.
