The X-Men universe has the most momentum it's had in years, including on the collectibles front. Square Enix and Marvel's Play Arts Kai line is responsible for some of the most interesting Marvel character designs, with previous entries including Wolverine, Black Widow, and Captain America. They've previously shown off their newest addition to the Marvel series Magneto at Toyfair., but now the official images have finally been released.
In short, the figure looks stunning. It looked rather amazing in pure gray before the paint application, but the paint job highlights all the design details in the armor, helmet, and that fantastic cape (via Toyark). The collection of metal shards all come together into a cape-like form, with the character's traditional red and purple color scheme modernized with a gradient effect. The armor also features some accents of glowing blue, fitting the whole electromagnetic motif, and it also comes with some magnetizing special effects for his hands.
Magneto will also come with two swappable hands, a swappable portrait, and a figure base. He'll stand at 10 inches tall, and will feature all the articulation Play Arts Kai figures are known for. Magneto will retail for around the $149.99 price point as similar figures in the line, and you can hit the next slide to see more images of the impressive figure.
It's not known when Magneto will once again return in the X-Men film franchise, but the latest offering from the series was the Hugh Jackman finale Logan. You can view the official synopsis below.
Logan takes place in the year 2024, where mutant births have become extremely rare. The defenders of mutant kind, the X-Men, are long gone, and the only remains of them are an old and struggling Charles Xavier and a weary Logan. Logan's vaunted healing factor has slowed, and at times doesn't seem to work at all. When a young mutant needs his help, Logan has to unsheathe his claws once more. His job isn't over yet.
Logan stars Hugh Jackman (Logan), Boyd Holbrook (Donald Pierce), Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier), Dafne Keen (Laura Kinney/X-23), Doris Morgado (Maria), Stephen Merchant (Caliban), Elizabeth Rodriguez (Gabriela), and Richard E. Grant (Dr. Zander Rice). James Mangold is directing and helped on the screenplay along with Scott Frank and Michael Green.
Logan is now playing in theaters, while Gambit still has a release date of December 31 of 2017, though that is likely going to change. Deadpool 2 is slated for March 2, 2018, with the New Mutants project coming up next on June 29, 2018. An Untitled X-Men project is also currently dated for July 13, 2018.
