The Inhuman Royal Family are certainly a unique set of characters, and their Marvel Comics history is one of the most Shakespearean family drama arcs in all of comics. However, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has already invested a lot of story time and introducing the Inhuman race, their extraterrestrial origins, and distributing the Terrigen Mists (the source of their powers) all around the Earth. With Inhuman presence and history now a big part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s continuity, there’s been a lot of question and speculation about how The Royal Family’s saga fits into that continuity.
Now, Scott Buck is revealing more about where the story of The Royal Family begins in the Inhumans TV series.
Inhumans: Where the Story Begins
According to Buck (via EW),ย Marvel’sย Inhumansย will be taking a deeper look at the Royal Family, at a critical time:ย
“Basically we’re telling a story about a family at a very critical juncture in their lives. When we meet up with them, we’re going to find that pretty much everything they’ve ever known is at risk.”
We can add in more detail to that tease, based on what we know so far about the show:ย
- It takes place both on Earth, and in the Inhuman mobile city of Attilan, which will be located (for awhile at least) on the dark side of Earth’s moon.ย
- The Royal Family (Black Bolt specifically) will find themselves on the wrong side of the law.
- Black Bolt’s Brother Maximusย will slowly try to usurp the throne (and possibly threaten Earth?) during the course of the season.ย
The real question in all this, is: What is the “critical juncture” the Inhuman Royal Family find themselves at? And what is the threat that puts “everything they’ve ever known… at risk?”
Finally: if that threat is big enough to put the entire Inhuman homeland at risk, how far across the MCUย does that threat extend? Is it somethingย Agents of SHIELDย will deal with? Does it have anything to do with Marvel Cosmic movies likeย Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2ย orย Thor: Ragnarok or evenย Avengers: Inifinityย War? And will we have to wait and watch the show to find out, or will we learn more from upcoming trailers, images, and other promos?ย
The first two episode of Marvel’s The Inhumans (directed by Roel Reine) will premiere in over 1,000 IMAX theatres across the globe โ for a two-week run โ starting on September 1, 2017. ABC will then premiere the weekly television series on Tuesday, September 26. Marvel’s Iron Fist showrunner Scott Buck is serving as its showrunner.
Marvel’s The Inhumans stars Anson Mount, Serinda Swan, Iwan Rheon, Ken Leung, Eme Ikwuakor, Isabelle Cornish, Mike Moh, Sonya Balmores and Ellen Woglom.
