Thor: Ragnarok has officially crossed the $300 million mark at the domestic box office.
While this is an impressive feat, Thor Ragnarok is actually the fourth superhero movie to achieve it just this year. Marvel's own Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming crossed the same milestone earlier this year, as did DC Films' Wonder Woman, which is all to say that it's been a pretty good year for superhero movies.
Thor: Ragnarok is the sixth-highest grossing film of the year, trailing behind Disney's live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, the three previously listed superhero films, and the horror hit It.
Thor: Ragnarok isn't just a hit at home. The film has earned over $800 million worldwide, making it the seventh-highest grossing movie of the year worldwide.
Thor: Ragnarok is Marvel Studios' 17th consecutive film to open at number one at the domestic box office and the film's success pushed the Marvel Cinematic Universe to become the first franchise in history to earn more than $5 billion at the domestic box office.
Thor: Ragnarok is also Marvel's highest-grossing Thor movie, outgrossing the lifetime totals of both the original Thor and Thor: The Dark World. Thor grossed $181 million domestically and $286.2 million internationally for a worldwide total of $449 million, and Thor: The Dark World grossed $206 million domestically and $438.2 million internationally for a worldwide total of $644.5 million.0comments
