Why You Should Watch 10 Things I Hate About You

There’s a reason 10 Things I Hate About You is considered a must-watch movie that has endured the test of time. A successful modernization of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew that managed to bring the characters, plot, and themes to a relatable ‘90s high school experience, the movie is both a great rom-com and an amazing teen movie. The film became a cult classic and cultural touchstone thanks to the multi-layered characters and charming leads portrayed by a stellar cast, clever script, witty one-liners, and irresistible romance. The movie’s soundtrack also deserves a mention, the music helping capture the themes and characters of the film.

A movie that you’ll want to revisit over and over, 10 Things I Hate About You remains a benchmark for teen romcoms and has been well-loved since its release. The movie grossed over $53 million worldwide on a budget of $30 million and was viewed favorably by critics and audience members, holding respective 71% and 69% ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. The film even spawned a TV series reboot, which aired on ABC Family for a single season in 2010. The sitcom is available to stream on both Disney+ and Hulu.

Other Rom-coms Now on Netflix

September is proving to be a season for love at Netflix. The streaming giant has added several rom-coms to its streaming lineup in September 2025. In addition to 10 Things I Hate About You, fellow iconic rom-com Sweet Home Alabama joined Netflix on September 28th. Those two titles followed the earlier arrivals of the Oscar-winning 2016 title La La Land and the Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron-starring 2019 movie Long Shot.

Netflix is also offering some brand-new titles to the genre by way of Netflix original movies. This month, the streamer debuted the new original rom-coms The Wrong Paris, She Said Maybe, and French Lover, joining the streamer’s expanding library of original romantic comedies that already includes the To all the Boys I’ve Loved Before franchise, The Perfect Date, and My Oxford Year.
