Though Chris Pine hosted the show in promotion of the upcoming Wonder Woman movie, he stepped back into his role as Star Trek’s Captain James Tiberius Kirk, complete with a distinct William Shatner flavor.

Introduced by Keenan Thompson’s impersonation of Neil deGrasse Tyson (complete with bad science jokes), the episode brought the original Star Trek crew back to the bridge of the USS Enterprise.

The Enterprise is in a dogfight and needs to return fire with their photon cannons, but they’re suffering a malfunction in the plasma exhaust system. Spock and Scotty cannot fix the problem, so the Vulcan calls in his brother Spocko to help out.

The skit positions the episode as if it took place during the ratings dive of the final season and that producers were trying anything to see if it would help bolster their numbers. So they invited one-hit wonder Sal “Pizza Beach” Delabate to play a new character with the hope they could attract a “far out audience.”

It’s worth a watch if only to see Pine’s impression of William Shatner’s take on their shared character.

Pine will next play Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman, in theaters June 2.
