David Corenswet & Nicholas Hoult Reprise Their Superman Roles in Man of Tomorrow Concept Poster

This new DC Universe art brings David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult back together as their characters from 2025’s Superman ahead of their returns in James Gunn’s upcoming Man of Tomorrow. While Gunn has remained adamant that Man of Tomorrow will not be a direct Superman sequel, the movie will mark the return of the movie’s two biggest stars. Superman and Lex Luthor are expected to go head to head before teaming up against an even bigger threat in Man of Tomorrow, and this partnership has now been imagined in a striking live-action concept poster.

The announcement that Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to release on July 9, 2027, came through the use of unique comic-style art drawn by Jim Lee which depicted Corenswet’s Superman and Hoult’s Lex Luthor. The latter suited up in a version of his powerful warsuit from DC Comics, which has now been imagined in the style of live-action in a new concept poster shared by @spdrmnkyxxiii on Instagram. The art shows exactly what Nicholas Hoult could look like in Lex Luthor’s armored battlesuit, which makes us even more excited for Man of Tomorrow.

What Will Happen in Superman: Man of Tomorrow?

Lex Luthor uses several different versions of the green-and-purple warsuit in DC Comics to become more evenly-matched to the incredible power of the Man of Steel. The art released by James Gunn, David Corenswet, and Nicholas Hoult to announce Man of Tomorrow seemed to stress the idea that Superman and Lex Luthor would indeed be fighting in the 2027 movie. However, Gunn’s more recent comments on The Howard Stern Show suggest otherwise, as he notes that Man of Tomorrow is “about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat.”

Gunn stated that Man of Tomorrow will be as much about Lex Luthor as it is about Clark Kent, which suggests that Luthor could be the Man of Tomorrow in question. After his experience being beaten and belittled in Superman, Luthor might have a change of heart in Man of Tomorrow, pushing him to team up with Superman. Some have theorized that they could partner to battle Brainiac โ€“ who was rumored for 2025’s Superman โ€“ or Bizarro, perhaps with the Superman clone returning from whatever universe he ended up in after traveling through the black hole.

Man of Tomorrow has also been rumored to include Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl, Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart version of Green Lantern, Milly Alcock’s Supergirl, and Jason Momoa’s Lobo. Scheduled to hit theaters after next year’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Lanterns series, and Clayface, Man of Tomorrow will expand James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU in some very exciting ways. It’ll be great to see David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult back in action in Man of Tomorrow, especially with the latter suiting up in his heavy-duty warsuit.
