Dreamworks Reveals 'Croods 2' and 'Spooky Jack' Release Dates

Back in November 2016, DreamWorks pulled the plug on The Croods 2, but as of today the sequel is back on with a new release date.

Released in 2013, the original Croods grossed over $587 million worldwide and was even nominated for an Academy Award. The sequel was originally slated for release in 2017 before being moved to 2018, but when Universal acquired DreamWorks Animation in 2016, Universal announced that it would not move forward with the project amid layoffs as part of the acquisition.

All of that appears to behind the project now. Coming Soon reports that the sequel is back on track and The Croods 2 has been given a September 18, 2020 release date. The film will see returning stars Emma Stone, Nicholas Cage, Catherine Keener, Cloris Leachman and Clark Duke welcome the addition of Leslie Mann to the cast.

The return of The Croods 2 wasn't the only news out of DreamWorks Animation today. The animation house also announced the release date for Spooky Jack. Spooky Jack, which focuses on three siblings who move into a creepy new house and discover that the monsters and creatures children are always told don't exist and are all haunting the house. That film, written by Robert Ben Garant who also wrote Night at the Museum, is slated to be released on September 17, 2021.
