Music is a huge part of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Writer and director James Gunn not only uses music to accompany the treatments he gives Marvel Studios, but the soundtracks to the films are big hits with fans as well. Today, Gunn revealed he's chosen almost all of the songs for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Gunn posted on Twitter today that a report that he had narrowed the list to 181 was out of date and indicated that he has at least ten songs already chosen.

The soundtracks from the first two Guardians installments have been very popular, with the soundtrack to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 even being certified gold. However, while the first two films' music were the song choices of Peter Quill's late mother, Meredith, the third installment will be influenced by Yondu.

"[Guardians of the Galaxy] Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 have been Meredith's song choices, her communication to Peter," director James Gunn said in a Facebook Live Q&A session. "In Vol. 3, the song choices will be Yondu's communicating to Peter."

As fans may recall, at the end of Vol. 2, Peter is given a Zune containing music curated by the late Yondu (Michael Rooker,) who both fans and Peter himself now realize served as Peter's surrogate father. One of the 300 songs on the device -- Cat Stevens' "Father and Son" -- even plays during Yondu's funeral.

With music being Yondu's way of communicating to Peter beyond death, it will be interesting to see what songs are on that Zune -- and which ten have made the soundtrack cut -- when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 heads into theaters.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is available on digital services, Blu-ray, and DVD now.
