While Paul Walker sadly passed away, his Fast & Furious character didn't suffer the same fate. I honor of the joy that Paul brought to his family in the franchise, Brian O'Conner was given the ride off into the sunset that the actor undoubtedly deserved.
This tearful tribute was the perfect way to end Furious 7, and it created a way for the franchise to continue after the actor's passing. However, the open-ended goodbye now leaves fans with one big question;
Where is Brian O'Conner?
If you recall, Brian left the crew in Furious 7 in order to take care of his family. He and Mia already had one son, with another child on the way. This responsibility is what basically wrote him out of the franchise.
With Dom going rogue, it's hard to think Brian would just stay away from his family. He's always been there for Dominic, so it stands to reason that he would want to get involved. Luckily, the characters in the film address his absence.
Warning: Minor spoilers to follow!
After Dom turns against his family, the team is trying to figure out how to track him down. No matter how well they think they know the guy, they're all struggling to come up with a plan. This is when Roman suggests the one thing they're all thinking, "Brian would know what to do."
Hobbs agrees, and hints that it's time to call Brian into action. Immediately, Letty shuts him down. She tells Hobbs that Brian needs to be with his family, and they're never going to bring him back in. He's finally out, and she wants it to stay that way.
This was a great way for the movie to recognize Paul Walker's contributions, while not keeping a ton of attention on him. Brian is gone, and the focus is on the other characters, but no one has forgotten just how much they love their brother.
