Peacock Finally Streaming One of the Best Comic Book Movies Ever (But Don’t Bother With the Sequels)

With a new month comes brand new movies and shows on your favorite streaming service, and with Halloween right around the corner, there’s even more new additions than usual. Peacock not only has a slew of new movies arriving this month, including plenty of horror titles for the season, but also new 2025 movies like How to Train Your Dragon. One of the best new additions to Peacock this month isn’t a horror movie, though, but it’s still a perfect October watch. To make it even better, it’s one of the best comic book movies of all time, and a movie ’90s kids still think about fondly.

Peacock may be streaming some animated Marvel TV shows, but the service does not have any other comic book movies to its name, except for one, 1994’s iconic The Crow. Directed by Alex Proyas and based on James O’Barr’s comic series of the same name, The Crow stars the late Brandon Lee, son of the legendary Bruce Lee, in the role that would both make him a household name and be the reason that his life tragically ended early. Even with the somber implications of the film itself, The Crow remains an essential watch and a pivotal piece of comic book movie history.

Why You Should Watch The Crow

Like the comic it’s based on, The Crow tells the story of Eric, an idealistic young man in love who is murdered along with his wife, only to rise from the grave with a unique new skillset. Emboldened by his new powers and a thirst for revenge, he hunts down the killers who ended his happiness while crossing paths with familiar faces from his old life.

Though the story itself is a great one, it’s Lee’s work as Eric that gives The Crow its heart and soul. By straddling the line between the desperation and rage of a man brought back to the land of the living, he crafts a wholly original performance. Lee was tragically killed on the set of the film, which has elevated his work in the movie after its release

The Crow is not only an expertly constructed screenplay, but it has a visual language from Proyas that makes it one of the most stunning adaptations of a comic book ever (made more impressive by the time of its release, where it utilized no green screen or CGI to create its rain-soaked, noir palette). On a pure visual level, there has been nothing in the realm of comic book adaptations before or since that comes close to the same level of craft on display, at least anything that was done entirely practically like The Crow.

It’s worth noting that the success of The Crow in 1994 gave way to the comic adaptation becoming a full-fledged franchise. Following the first movie, a standalone sequel called The Crow: City of Angels would be released in theaters to both rotten reviews and putrid box office. Later, two direct-to-video follow-ups were also made, 2000’s The Crow: Salvation and 2005’s The Crow: Wicked Prayer, the latter of which has a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Finally, there’s 2024’s reboot of The Crow starring Bill Skarsgรฅrd and FKA Twigs, the less of which is said about out loud by anyone, the better.
