Peacockโs streaming library saw a rush of new arrivals on September 1st, including Miss Congeniality. The Donald Petrie-directed action comedy is now streaming on the NBCUnviresal streamer alongside its 2005 sequel, Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous, after leaving rival streamer Paramount+. In the 2000 movie, Bullock stars as Gracie Hart, a tomboyish FBI agent who is forced to go undercover as a contestant in the Miss United States beauty pageant when a terrorist threatens to bomb the event. Bullock reprises her role in the sequel, which sees Gracie, now the face of the FBI, back in action when the pageant’s winner and emcee are kidnapped.
Why You Should Watch Miss Congeniality
Miss Congeniality wasnโt all that well-received by critics, the film only holding a 41% criticsโ score on Rotten Tomatoes, but it has since risen to gain cult classic status and is a popcorn film at its best. Bullock shines as the loveable ugly duckling Gracie, and her charismatic performance, which earned the actress her second Golden Globe nomination, is supported by a cast of memorable characters portrayed by Michael Caine, Benjamin Bratt, Candice Bergen, William Shatner, and Ernie Hudson. A feel-good, low-stakes narrative, Miss Congeniality delivers an endlessly entertaining mix of mystery, action, and humor delivered through memorable lines like โApril 25th is the perfect date.โ
Miss Congeniality debuted in theaters in December 2000 and grossed $212 million worldwide against a $45 million budget. Although it was met with mixed reviews from critics, it was well-liked by the audience, who gave it a 69% score. Five years later, a sequel, Armed and Fabulous, premiered. Bullock once again earned rave reviews for her performance, but the film failed to capture the same charm as the original. It holds just a 15% criticsโ score and 43% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Will There Be a Miss Congeniality 3?
With Miss Congeniality reaching cult classic status and reboots and revivals being all the rage at the moment, it seems that a third Miss Congeniality film would be a no-brainer. Unfortunately for fans, there have been no plans for another film.
If Miss Congeniality 3 were to become a thing, at least one star would be on board to return, though. Speaking with PEOPLE back in June, Heather Burns, who portrayed Miss Rhode Island Cheryl Frasier, said she would โloveโ to return. Burns said Miss Congeniality โwas one of the best experiences of my life. It was so much fun making both of those filmsโฆ So yes, a third [movie], I would jump at it. It would be so much fun.”
