The late 2000s and 2010s represented a critical era for horror, as many of the genre’s biggest titles from those years launched the franchises that have defined the last two decades. There’s one movie from that era, though, that has always been scarier than the rest, and it remains a highly talked-about horror entry despite not kicking off a long-running series.

Scott Derrickson’s Sinister hit theaters back in 2012 and frightened audiences everywhere. The film about a writer discovering the horrors of a house through old home videos was absolutely haunting 13 years ago, and that hasn’t really changed at any point since. Now, with Halloween on the horizon, horror fans have a great opportunity to revisit Sinister, thanks to Tubi.
This month, Sinister joined the Tubi streaming lineup, making it completely free for anyone to stream. Out of all the horror options out there to watch this Spooky Season, Sinister is easily one of the scariest.
Sinister Is Still As Scary As Ever
Ethan Hawke stars in Sinister as a writer who moves his family to a new home as he tries to get his novel back on track. Soon after moving, however, he finds an old box of film reels in the attic, depicting the chilling deaths of families who lived there before. We’ll spare the details here, but those videos alone are enough to put Sinister high in the ranks of most terrifying films of all time.
But the horrors go beyond those videos, bleeding the haunting imagery from the film into the world of Hawke’s family. The evil presence seen on the reels escapes into his reality and puts his family in the crosshairs, continuing the haunting legacy of what came before.
Sinister is definitely not a movie you want to watch on your own — or even too late at night. There are some images and moments in this movie that’ll stick around in your brain long after you’ve stopped watching.
New Horror Movies Streaming on Tubi
Sinister was added to Tubi’s movie lineup at the start of September, alongside dozens of other popular horror titles. Other new horror additions include Halloween, Lake Placid, The Cabin in the Woods, and Paranormal Activity.
