Part of the fun when it comes to Fast and Furious films is the banter and camaraderie of Dom’s team. There’s a chemistry that the group has earned just from being around each other for several films, and Jason Statham has quickly adapted to that on-set vibe. He’s also developed a fantastic chemistry with The Rock, and one of their best moments in Fate of the Furious turned out to be improvised.

During one particular sequence in the film, Rock’s Lt. Hobbs and Statham’s Shaw are having words with one another, as the two have to work together for the moment to bring Dom in. Hobbs and Shaw have an adversarial history, so it isn’t surprising when Shaw says he’ll have to kill Hobbs when the mission is over. Hobbs has a brilliant response, saying “With all due respect Captain, when this whole thing is over we’re going to find a location, and I’m gonna knock your teeth so far down your throat you’re gonna stick a toothbrush right up your a** to brush ’em.”

Shaw can’t help but laugh at the threat, but it’s a genuine laugh, and Hobbs quickly follows suit (via ScreenRant). It turns out that it was not planned that way, something the Rock revealed after being asked about the scene on Twitter.

“Ha completely broke character. It’s the fun of our real life chemistry. Great guy. For the record, he broke first. #fateofthefurious”

The chemistry between the two actors led some to believe a spinoff was in the works, but those might have stalled after a reported scene with the two was removed from the film. It seems, for now, fans will just have to get their dose of the two action stars in the main series.

From the shores of Cuba and the streets of New York City to the icy plains off the arctic Barents Sea, our elite force will crisscross the globe to stop an anarchist from unleashing chaos on the world’s stageโ€ฆand to bring home the man who made them a family.

For The Fate of the Furious, Vin Diesel is joined by a returning all-star cast that includes Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky and Kurt Russell. In addition to Theron, the series welcomes newcomers Scott Eastwood and Oscar winner Helen Mirren. The film is directed by F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton) and produced by returning producers Neal H. Moritz, Michael Fottrell, and Diesel.

The Fate of the Furious is in theaters now.
