Twilight is having a moment. While Stephenie Meyer’s story of a Bella Swan falling in love with the vampire Edward Cullen has been a pop culture mainstay for years, this year specifically marks the 20th anniversary of the book that launched not only a literary series, but a film franchise as well. It’s no surprise then that with Twilight celebrating a milestone anniversary, the films are seeing a resurgence in popularity and now, all five films that make up The Twilight Saga are streaming again on Hulu where they’re already starting to take over the Top 10.

All five Twilight films — Twilight, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1, and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 — have all returned to Hulu as of October first. The films had previously been off streaming for a little bit, having left Netflix at the end of June. Despite only being back on the streamer for a few days, Twilight is already the top movie, with New Moon coming in at number 3. Eclipse is a bit further down, just outside of Top 10 at number 12. How long the films will remain in the Top 10 and if the others will rise onto the chairs remains anyone’s guess. However, it’s not unusual for The Twilight Saga to be popular on streaming. Earlier this year, when the films returned to Netflix, they started dotting that platform’s Top 10 as well.
Why Does Twilight Remain So Popular?

As evidenced by The Twilight Saga’s current streaming success on Hulu and previous streaming success on Netflix, the series has had a deep and enduring popularity and part of that can be attributed to nostalgia. Twilight had a major impact on millennials when the first film was released in 2008. It was a massive box office hit, as were the films that followed, and left a huge mark on a generation as it helped to re-popularize vampire stories in pop culture and entertainment. The film also redefined the concept of fandom and, for many, helped to create new communities online for people to share their appreciation and enjoyment of the love triangle between Bella, Edward, and Jacob and the overall world Meyer had created. Two decades on, revisiting that world is something of a comfort watch and allows fans to revisit that particular time in their lives, but also offer a bit of fun escapism in the form of a fantasy story.
Twilight’s enduring popularity can also be attributed to how it fundamentally changed how popular fiction would be adapted for screen. Twilight’s franchise saw the final book in the series adapted into two films, something that we would see repeated for the adaptation of another popular series of young adult books for screen: The Hunger Games. It is also unlikely that we will see Twilight lose any of its enduring popularity anytime soon. With the novel celebrating its anniversary, new audiences are discovering the love story and, with it, the films as well.
The Twilight Saga is now streaming Hulu.
