Wake Up Dead Man Trailer Shows First Look at Netflix’s Star-Packed Knives Out 3

The first teaser trailer for the third movie in Rian Johnson’s whodunnit film series has finally been released, giving us a look at the star-studded line-up for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. Following on from 2019’s Knives Out and 2022’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Wake Up Dead Man will bring back Daniel Craig as private detective Benoit Blanc. The movie sends Blanc to the village of Chimney Rock to investigate the “impossible” murder of charismatic priest Jefferson Wicks, played by Josh Brolin – only one of the Knives Out sequel’s impressive cast.

Johnson confirmed his development of a third instalment in the Knives Out franchise before the release of Glass Onion. Now, with Wake Up Dead Man’s November 26th theatrical release date and December 12th Netflix release date looming, the first official teaser trailer has given us a better idea of the upcoming mystery. The trailer spotlights Benoit Blanc’s partnership with Josh O’Connor’s Rev. Jud Duplenticy as they question characters portrayed by Glenn Close, Jeremy Renner, Mila Kunis, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church.

What to Expect From Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery

Knives Out and Glass Onion both included all-star casts, and Wake Up Dead Man is continuing this fantastic trend for the franchise. Wake Up Dead Man is expected to be the darkest and grittiest instalment in the film series yet, with its Gothic setting of Chimney Rock, the church, and the graveyard providing a creepier and perhaps more poetic feeling than previous instalments. Even so, early reviews reveal that Wake Up Dead Man is also the most playful instalment in the franchise yet, which makes us even more excited for the upcoming sequel.

Currently, with 25 reviews, Wake Up Dead Man has a 96% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which places it just behind the original Knives Out’s 97%, and a little ahead of Glass Onion’s 91% – though each has an impressive score. Critics have lauded Wake Up Dead Man for being “rich in ideas,” claiming it to be “one of [Rian Johnson’s] best screenplays,” and suggesting that Craig and O’Connor have brilliant chemistry, the ensemble is electric, and the movie has sharp and stunning cinematography. This all points to a brilliant new addition to the Knives Out franchise.

Both Johnson and Craig have stated their ambition to create many more movies in the Knives Out franchise as long as both are involved, so Wake Up Dead Man will not be the final instalment in the series. It will, however, seemingly be one of the strongest adventures for Benoit Blanc, and one of the most captivating and original, so there is a lot of excitement surrounding the movie’s upcoming release dates. After the release of the trailer, our excitement for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery has only increased.
