If you're holding out for a new Wolverine, it's going to be a while.

Hugh Jackman still has a movie in the works -- and of course there are always persisent rumors that the ol' Canucklehead will appear in Deadpool or X-Men: Apocalypse -- but the filmmakers behind the latter aren't eager to take on the task of recasting Hugh Jackman.

Jackman, of course, has at this point starred in seven films as Logan, with at least one more on the horizon, but with each new film he commits to, Jackman has been saying there's a possibility it's his last -- and with the third Wolverine solo film, he's doubled down on that, saying that it is the final time fans will see him in the role.

During a set visit rundown at Digital Spy, the site said both director Bryan Singer and producer Simon Kinberg characterized recasting the role as impossible.

"I do think you would want to figure out how to tell more Wolverine stories," Kinberg said. "So either we would try to entice Hugh to come back and eat more chicken and work out for a few months, or we would have to figure out a creative way to move forward. Honestly, I can't imagine anybody else playing the part, and there's not too many characters I can say that for."

Hugh Jackman will return for one last outing as Wolverine, in a forthcoming sequel from The Wolverine director James Mangold.

The as-yet-untitled sequel is due in theaters on March 3, 2017.
