Archie and Josie Cast For Riverdale

Archie Andrews and Josie, the lead singer for Josie and the Pussycats, have both been cast on Riverdale.

According to Deadline, New Zealander KJ Apa will play series lead Archie Andrews in The CW's upcoming revamp of the Archie Comics universe. Ashleigh Murray has been cast as Josie, of Josie and the Pussycats fame.

According to the TV series, Archie is "an intense, conflicted teen, a boyish high school sophomore who got pumped up over the summer working construction and is now juggling the interest of several girls, as well as trying to balance his passion for writing and performing music -- against the wishes of his father and his football coach."

Josie is "a gorgeous, snooty and ambitious girl who is the lead singer for popular band Josie and the Pussycats. She has zero interest in recording any songs written by fellow teen Archie."

...That's a far cry from the big-screen version of Josie and the Pussycats, which cast the band as outsiders and Josie as one of the nicest, most put-upon girls in high school.

Riverdale is expected to debut on The CW in the fall from executive producer Greg Berlanti.
