After taking the Memorial Day weekend off, Game of Thrones returns tonight with a new episode on HBO. In the last episode, Tyrion found a surprising champion in the Red Viper of Dorne, who will face down the Mountain in trial-by-combat.
In the previous episode, “Mockingbird,” Tyrion was having a hard time finding a champion to face the Mountain until Oberyn Martell volunteered. In Meereen, Daenerys and Daario spent the night together. Daenerys then sent Daario on a mission to reclaim Yunkai, but also heeded Jorah Mormont’s advice and sent Hizdahr zo Loraq as an ambassador as well. At Dragonstone, Selyse and Melisandre discussed the Lord of Light’s plans for Shireen. On the road in the Riverlands, Arya and the Hound were ambushed and the Hound received a bite wound on his neck. Meanwhile, Brienne and Podrick got their first lead in their search for the Stark girls. At the Wall, Jon Snow’s requests to fortify the Wall against attack were rebuffed. At the Eyrie, Lysa Arryn’s jealousy of Sana reached its breaking point and she tried to throw her niece out of the Moon Door. Petyr arrived in time to talk Lysa down, only to kick his wife through the door instead.
In “The Mountain and the Viper,” Unexpected visitors arrive in Mole’s Town; Littlefinger’s motives are questioned; Ramsay tries to prove himself to his father; Tyrion’s fate is decided.
Several images and a preview video have been released leading up to the episode. All have been included below.
