While many have postulated on the secrets behind the success of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, Director James Gunn's distinct vision and hands-on approach were certainly key factors.

In the Intergalactic Visual Effects featurette, Gunn's obsession with raccoons is explored, and how that translated to the way Rocket moves and acts on the screen during the film, Parade reports.

The featurette also includes clips from the premiere where Gunn brought a real, live raccoon named Oreo with him.

"Oreo was the basis for what a lot of what Rocket does," Gunn explained.

The Marvel outer-space action comedy has grossed over $750 million worldwide to become one of the biggest movies of the year.

Guardians of the Galaxy arrives on Blu-ray, DVD & Digital HD on December 9.
