How much will Joss Whedon get paid for The Avengers sequel? While we're sure it's probably more money than we will ever see in our lifetime, it's not $100 million that's for sure. With rumors circulating on several well-known entertainment websites about massive paydays for some involved in Avengers 2, Joss Whedon himself took to the Internet to set the record straight. In a post on Whedonesque.com, Joss Whedon wrote, "I was going to let it slide, but I've got this sour taste in my mouth. (Mmmm, lemonade!). Some facts are not facts. I'm not going to go into the whole thing, but jeepers, I'm not getting $100 mil on Avengers 2. If I were, I would come on this site and laugh and laugh and laugh. I'm not making Downey money. I'm making A LOT, which is exciting. I'm not pretending to be a poor farmer, an Everyman, an ANYman. But that number is nuts." Whedon also went on to joke about a couple other things that have been reported about him that should be taken with a grain of salt, such as that he throws wild Hollywood parties where everyone is naked and dancing and wild and he remembers to serve enough snacks, that he can get a movie greenlit by sighing and staring into the middle distance, that he ate a unicorn and made it winter for three years, and that he 'can write.' Well, we for one believe that the man can write, so at least that rumor we think is true. As far as the $100 million, the Deadline report does note that the $100 million they claim Joss Whedon is receiving is "for a combination of product and services" and not just Avengers 2. Whether it's true or not that Whedon has an overall deal worth $100 million is unknown, unless he posts another update to clarify. Given all the projects that Joss Whedon is working on for Disney, it actually wouldn't seem absurd that he might have the potential to make $100 million. Our guess is that like any big name in Hollywood, his deal probably contains a lot of performance incentives, so whether he winds up earning $100 million or not likely depends a great deal on the success of the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series and Avengers 2.
