Have you been wondering what type of direction Joss Whedon will take with the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series? Will it be a hard-hitting crime drama like CSI? Or a campy comedy like the old sixties Batman TV show? Well, the answer is that it will be like neither of those series. According to TVLine, Joss Whedon described S.H.I.E.L.D. as something new for the small screen. Joss Whedon said, "I'm excited about the show because it's a very hopeful show. It's not about murder, and it's not about crime, and it's not people looking into their own belly buttons. It's about people who are trying to help each other, and that's one of the things I loved about comic books. They had costumes and the villains were cool [but] they stood for something, and I like doing a show that does that." The description actually sounds a lot like what Joss Whedon did with The Avengers movie. Instead of following in the footprints of the dark, grim superhero movie, he created a movie about heroes coming together to save the world. He created a sense of adventure and hopefulness, while adding in just the right dash of humor. So will the show feature any of the characters from the Marvel Comics universe? It doesn't look like that will be the case, at least not initially. Even thought the show will be true to the Marvel universe, Whedon said, "Right now, I want to involve people in the characters that we've created for the show, and then we'll worry about [the other stuff]." Of course, that leaves the door open for the possibility of cameos down the road. Who would you like to see from the Marvel Comic universe cameo on the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series?
