Shazam! An Update on the Captain Marvel Film

A great way to find out what a screenwriter is thinking is to ask him who he pictures in the title role. 'Shazam' writer Bill Birch was asked that and he replied...

I always thought Ryan Reynolds would have been interesting but now that he's Green Lantern that's not an option.

When CineFools asked Birch about Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, who was at one time attached as Billy Batson:

My rule of thumb is that no actor is committed to do a movie until the first day of shooting is over with...I know that Pete Segal (director) and Dwayne have a relationship that was solidified when Pete directed 'Get Smart.' As far as him being committed? I'm sure it will all depend on the script."

Speaking of the script, Birch mentioned that he and co-writer Geoff Johns are starting fresh on a script. There have been multiple drafts of previous storylines, but those are out the window. Sounds promising. We're looking forward to hearing more about the project.
