Simon Pegg: J.J. Abrams Will Do Star Trek 3...or He Won't, I Don't Know

Earlier today, Shaun of the Dead and Star Trek Into Darkness star Simon Pegg was caught on the red carpet at the BAFTAs, where he was asked about Star Trek, Star Wars and all things geek. Needless to say, Pegg--a famed geek in his own right--had plenty to say. "I don't know how separate they've always been," Pegg said of Star Trek and Star Wars fans. "I think you tend to be a bit of both. There are some people, I guess, who kind of stick to one thing and don't want to do the other but J.J.'s the perfect choice for that job. I just hope he doesn't forget us Trekkies in the corner." "We're just trying to protect the film," he said of the misdirects, fibs and other tactics being employed to keep the story of Star Trek Into Darkness under wraps. We seem to be up against a continual barrage of people trying to spoil it, so he's just trying to protect it." The money quote, though, was the shortest, and came at the end of the clip. Asked who he would like to direct Star Trek 3 if J.J. Abrams didn't do it, Pegg stated simply, "[Abrams] will do Star Trek 3." Needless to say, the video (embedded below) has exploded across the Internet as evidence that Abrams's inner circle knows something the rest of us don't--an impression which Pegg was quick to dispel. Once the "news" broke, Pegg tweeted:

So...which is which, Tim Bisley?
