USA Network announced today that they have passed on a pair of anticipated hour-long pilots, including one by The Walking Dead producer Gale Anne Hurd. Horizon was a period alien drama, set during the height of World War II when a secretary at the FBI played by Ruth Bradley became the only person standing between earth an alien invasion. Written by Bridget Tyler, Hurd executive producers and Yves Simoneau directed the pilot. The other pilot the network won't go forward with is a family comedy that Deadline speculates was chosen specifically to gel with Modern Family, which the network owns in syndication. Modern Family has recently been paired with Psych, not an entirely bad combination, but Psych is ending on March 26. Hurd, who also executive produced TerminatorThe Incredible Hulk and Punisher: War Zone, is attached to the forthcoming The Walking Dead spinoff as well as Thief of Thieves and a made-for-TV film adaptation of Alien Hunters titled simply Hunters.
