Mark Hamill Was Blissfully Unaware of Fisher and Ford Star Wars Affair

Thanks to Carrie Fisher's tell-all book about filming the original Star Wars trilogy, "The Princess Diarist," the story of her on-set romantic affair with Harrison Ford has gone on and on. The pair, whose characters Princess Leia and Han Solo were romantically involved in the films, had a real-life fling of their own, but it was news to their costar Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker.

"I was blissfully unaware," Hamill told Entertainment Tonight while promoting his new web series Pop Culture Quest. "I was so self-involved at that point, they could've been doing it in front of me and I wouldn't have noticed. I was single and had my own agenda," he said with a laugh.

Hamill was glad he didn't know about it at the time, saying it "might have been a distraction" had he known. He also cautioned that these "on set-romances are commmonplace, but can be tricky."

"If the relationship doesn't last and you're on a TV series and you got four more seasons to go, it can be really awkward. It happened to me. I was with a girl who was playing my sister on a soap opera, General Hospital," he said.

The three stars returned to the Star Wars franchise in Star Wars: The Force Awakens last year, setting over 30 box office records in the process. During the press tour for that film, Ford, Hamill, and Fisher all got along swimmingly, with Ford and Fisher even sharing a kiss at San Diego Comic-Con - one that with today's knowledge has a little more history to it than simply on-screen. They don't have to worry about any potential on-set awkwardness now that the story is public, for better or for worse. That's because while Fisher and Hamill both returned for Star Wars: Episode VIII, Ford did not - Solo's death was the stunning climax to The Force Awakens.
