It’s been a huge day for The Walking Dead fans and, much like the upcoming storyline, the news is nowhere close to slowing down.

Following the massive Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic Con, The Walking Dead hosted a press conference to further discuss the upcoming seventh season of the hit AMC series. The man of the hour, Jeffrey Dean Morgan popped in to chat, sharing some insight to how he approaches his pop culture phenomenon of a villain.

Admittedly a massive fan of the comics, Morgan admits “the comics only give you so much.” As an actor, he is forced to real dive into his craft for the role. “With Negan, it’s given me an opportunity to do something I’ve never done before,” he says. “There’s not a trace of Jeffrey in Negan.”

“With Negan, it’s about being fearless,” Morgan says.

“I see glimpses of Negan in the comic book but bringing that to life, I change the way I move and the inflection of my voice,” Morgan explains. “It’s turned into this weird thing. Scenes happen and we’ll all look at each other just be like, ‘What was that that just happened there?’ It just gets seriously weird with Negan around.”

After the conference, Morgan told me that we will be seeing a ton of Negan in season 7 and that he is going to talk a whole lot, just the like the comics and just like the final ten minutes of the season six finale which was a 12-page script he had to learn in just a couple of days. We’ll have more on that over the weekend.
