As The Walking Dead continues, its roster of characters grows. The number of relevant faces in Robert Kirkman‘s series has reached an all time high. In becoming such a large cast, some characters are unable to earn their moments in the sun.

However, the popular comic book series might have big plans for Magna in the near future if comments from Kirkman in Issue #169 are any indication. The character first appeared in Issue #127, where she and her group were saved by Paul “Jesus” Monroe. Skeptic at first, Magna and the small group of survivors she had been leading became integral parts of the Alexandria community and its military. However, Magna has often been overshadowed by other popular characters in the crowded comic book.
One fan expressed his dissatisfaction with such facts in the Letter Hacks section of The Walking Dead Issue #169.
“Jesus was the last new character I really cared about,” Lucas Alberston of Albany, New York wrote. “After that, not a single new character managed to connect with me. Meanwhile, the old characters continued to die or fade into obscurity, and month by month, I had less connections to the characters, less reason to care about reading this series. I don’t know what it is, Magna seems like she’s got some potential and… there’s uh…. that guy… Zachary? Is his name Zachary? Um… yeah.”
Writer and creator of The Walking Dead chose Albertson’s letter as one which he wished to address, where he teased a bigger future for Magna. “Sorry to hear about your dislike of recent issues,” Kirkman wrote. “I wish I could boldly disagree with your assessment of new characters, but you’re playing directly into my insecurities as a writer there. Sometimes I worry I’m not doing a good enough job digging deep enough with the new characters. Magna is a good example of this. There’s been so much going on she just hasn’t had the room to shine. I hope to remedy this in the coming issues. Wish me luck!”
With The Walking Dead having opened the door for more complex storylines and a wide world with the recent issue, Magna has an opportunity to emerge with a larger role as several characters have left the Safe-Zone before it came to an end.
