WARNING: Spoilers ahead for The Walking Dead season seven!

During 'Swear', the latest episode of The Walking Dead, Tara runs into a group of survivors near the ocean coast. The community is called Oceanside, and the inhabitants tell Tara that they shoot any outsiders without hesitating.

There's one other unique detail about Oceanside that many fans have been noticing -- there are no men in the colony.

All of the other communities are run by male leaders -- Rick, Negan, Gregory, Ezekiel -- but Oceanside it comprised entirely of women.

Why is that?

As they explain at the dinner table scene during the episode, Negan rid the people of every man they had.

The women of Oceanside were part of a larger colony, much further inland than they currently are. They got caught up with Negan, and they were getting supplies for him. When they tried to stand up to the villain, he made a statement.

Negan killed every man over the age of 10.

When only women and young children were left in the community, they decided to run. The people escaped from Negan's grasp, and relocated near the ocean.

IThis is why they shoot everyone that comes into contact with them, and this is why their community is so hidden. The women are trying their best to keep Negan from knowing where they are, and this is the reason they don't want Tara to leave.

The women of Oceanside are a strong bunch, and their guns could be an enticing grab for Rick and his people.
