Lanterns puts two of the most well-known Green Lanterns in the spotlight with the team-up of Hal Jordan and John Stewart, but the show also makes it clear that the Green Lantern Corps stretches far beyond Earth. Aside from a stellar Ch’p reference though, we haven’t heard of any other notable Green Lanterns, but that changes in Lanterns episode 2, as the show just confirmed that one of the most powerful members of the Green Lantern Corps exists in the current DCU.

Spoilers incoming for Lanterns episode 2, so if you haven’t watched the episode yet, you’ve been warned. Just like when Ch’p was mentioned, we learn about yet another famed Green Lantern during a conversation between John and Hal, and this time it’s the Corps’ resident planet Lantern named Mogo. Not only does Hal reveal Mogo exists, but he also makes a point to add that, “Mogo doesn’t socialize.” It would appear that Mogo is indeed part of the DCU Green Lantern Corps, and that should delight Green Lantern fans everywhere.
Who Is Mogo, and Will We Ever Actually See Him In The DCU

With Mogo’s mention in Lanterns, the Lantern who is a literal planet is now officially part of the DCU, which is wonderful news. The question then becomes: will we actually see him at some point in the series, and if not, when could an opportunity for Mogo to appear happen next?
Before answering that question, let’s give a quick breakdown of who Mogo is. Since Mogo is a planet, he’s not just a Lantern but a location as well, and he operates in sector 2261.142.M. Being a planet comes with immense power, but it also has its share of setbacks. As Hal says, Mogo isn’t the biggest socializer, and since he’s also been unable to attend big events on OA given that his gravity field could destroy it with being in such close proximity, group functions aren’t so easy either.
Now, to be fair, the upsides are pretty grand as well. Not only can Mogo create immense constructs and powerful blasts, but he also has control of his own climate, gravity, soil, and any plant life that resides there. Mogo is also the perfect place to go in order to recharge for tired Lanterns thanks to the breathable atmosphere and peaceful surroundings.
Mogo also has one of the most important jobs in the Lantern Corps, as Mogo helps guide rings to new owners after their previous hosts die. Mogo can also be a weapon in the wrong hands, as we saw when he was consumed by the Red Lantern’s anger and subsequently destroyed the planet Thanagar.
As for when he shows up, we could very well see him at some point during Lanterns season 1, and even a quick appearance would have fans excited. Work on season 2 seems to be starting up as well, so perhaps we’ll get a real appearance by Mogo then. There’s also Man of Tomorrow happening next year, and if you are talking about someone as cosmically powerful as Brainiac, perhaps that would be the perfect place to feature Mogo as well.
Only time will tell, but for now it’s just great knowing he’s officially part of the DCU. Lanterns is now streaming on HBO Max.
