Before the show went on its midseason break, The Flash accidentally traveled five months into the future after tossing the Philosopher’s Stone into the Speed Force. There, he witnessed Savitar murder Iris West — stabbing Barry Allen’s one true love in the back with his wrist-blade. When the second-half of the season begins, Barry is determined to make sure that painful future never comes to pass.

“Whether they do get out of it is the question,” Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg told Entertainment Weekly. “In an upcoming episode, they learn a little bit more about the future and they now have a list of things they know will occur between now and May. Their operating principle is can they stop enough of these things to change time? They have a little bit of a road map. It reminds me of Oliver’s list. They’ve got a mission every week to see if they can change the future.”

Even if Barry prevents Iris’s death, the rest of Team Flash — Caitlin, Cisco, Joe, Wally, and “fake Wells” — may not be safe. Savitar prophesied, “One shall betray you. One shall fall. One will suffer a fate far worse than death.” While Kreisberg stayed mum on that topic, it is probably safe to assume that saving Iris will in inadvertently cause one of the other members of the team to perish.

BARRY FIGHTS FOR IRIS — Barry (Grant Gustin) is tormented by his vision of the future where Iris (Candice Patton) is murdered by Savitar. When a criminal named Plunder (guest star Stephen Huszar) shows up in Central City, Barry recalls the villain’s presence in his vision of the future and fears that if he catches Plunder, it will cement Iris’ fate.Confused about Barry’s hesitation to stop Plunder, Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) decides to step in as Kid Flash.Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) offers Julian (Tom Felton) a job.

“Borrowing Problems from the Future” is directed by Millicent Shelton and written by Grainne Godfree & David Kob.
