Warning: Spoilers ahead for last week's episode of DC's Legends of Tomorrow, titled "Pilot, Part Two."

When you're hunting an immortal madman and there are only two people in the world who are capable of putting him down once and for all, it's a huge inconvenience when one of those two dies almost immediately.

Of course, that's just what happened in last week's episode of DC's Legends of Tomorrow, when Hawkman was killed at the hands of Vandal Savage after he and Hawkgirl misinterpreted exactly how Savage could be killed.

That leaves Hawkgirl as the team's final hope of stopping Savage -- or at a minimum, it means if they fail, Hunter will have to travel to a different time period and get a different Hawkman and Hawkgirl once they've reincarnated and become age-appropriate.

"The tragedy is [Kendra] just came to believe what he was saying was true -- the fact that they were destined to fall in love in this life and every life that has preceded it. That happened on the eve of Vandal killing him," showrunner Phil Klemmer told TV Guide. "What we're going to explore in our show is her gradually remembering all the lives they had together in various time periods and how they inform this life, how everything she's learned in her 208 deaths will give her the strength and power and knowledge on how to not fail this time, when she will ultimately confront Vandal Savage."

He also admits in the same interview that producers would certainly be interested in exploring the notion of a love triangle between Kendra, Hawkman and a third party -- either on or off the ship -- given the nature of Kendra's "destiny" to be with Carter and how that affected her, both in the pilot and in the comics.

DC's Legends of Tomorrow airs on Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
