Joss Whedon at Wesleyan Commencement 2013

Earlier this week, we posted a transcript from Avengers director Joss Whedon's 181st commencement speech at Wesleyan University. Whedon told graduates that his goal was to be more uplifting than Bill Cosby, who he recalled saying "you're not going to change the world, so don't try" in a commencement speech. In order to top Cosby, Whedon told graduates, " And so, what I'd like to say to all of you is that you are all going to die." Amazingly, we also think that could possible be what Whedon has in mind for the opening line for the main villain in Avengers 2. After the death talk though, Whedon ended things on a much more positive note. Whedon said, "You will be so many things, and the one thing that I wish I'd known and want to say is, don't just be yourself. Be all of yourselves. Don't just live. Be that other thing connected to death. Be life. Live all of your life. Understand it, see it, appreciate it. And have fun."
