Earlier this week during the PlayStation E3 press conference, the publisher confirmed that it was bringing back Shadow of the Colossus to PlayStation 4, with fully remastered visuals.

We're excited to see it in action when it surfaces next year, but the price may damper a few of your hopes, as the game is currently set to sell for $59.99. As for why that is, Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida provided some clarification when he recently spoke to Famitsu.

Yoshida explained that the game isn't a typical remaster, as we've come to expect from Sony with games like The Last of Us Remastered and The Uncharted Collection. Instead, it's being rebuilt from the ground up by the development team at Bluepoint Games, so it's considered a remake. And it appears that a lot of work is going into the game's visuals, particularly for those that own a PlayStation 4 Pro.

The president indicated that the game's content will be the same, so no extra Colossi (Colossuses?) will be included. But all of the original assets from Team Ico's coding will be used, so fans will be able to recall exciting moments that occur, particular with the first battle, when the young man, Wander, first comes across a mighty beast while riding his loyal horse.

This isn't the first time that a remastered game has sold for $59.99, mind you. That's what games like The Last of Us Remastered and even this year's Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition sold for upon release. Granted, some people may wait for the price to drop, or even go after the Ico/Shadow of the Colossus package over on PS3 instead. That's certainly their choice.

That said, fans of Shadow of the Colossus should be pleased with the work going into the remaster, and the sheer thought that the game will look even better than ever on the PlayStation 4. Bluepoint Games is working hard on it still, but it should make for quite the release when it arrives in 2018. We'll see how this mighty giant fares then – and if the Team Ico magic is still accounted for.
